Permanent tracheostomy in horses
Permanent tracheostomy is recommended in horses with a high degree of obstruction in the upper respiratory tract, not eligible for treatment with other conservative or surgical methods. The procedure can be performed in a standing position. In this case report, we describe horses that undergo to this type of surgery. The treatment was performed on a small group of horses, so it cannot be clearly stated that it is completely safe in a temperate climate, but the results are promising.
