Renal cell carcinoma in budgerigars – description of selected cases
The study presents three cases of renal carcinoma in budgerigars. Clinical examination revealed moderate enlargement of the abdominal wall, polyuria and a typical symptom of right or left leg paresis with decreased sensation but no bone or muscle abnormalities. Histological examinations revealed renal cell carcinoma in all three cases: in the right kidney (two budgerigars) and the left kidney (one budgerigar). Additionally, in one case multiple metastases in the liver were found. Immunohistochemical examination indicated cytokeratin expression in the kidney as well as in the liver metastases, confirming epithelial origin of that neoplasia.
Keywords: renal cell carcinoma, budgerigar.
