Pathological fracture of the humerus in a dog caused by a simple bone cyst
A 3-year-old male French Buldog was referred for evaluation of a sudden right thoracic limb lameness. Radiographic and histopathologic examination gave the diagnosis of simple bone cysts of the humeral supracondylar region with a pathologic supra- and intercondylar fracture of the right humerus. The osteosynthesis of the fractures was performed with a lag screw Ø 3.5 mm, bone cement, and 3 Steinman pins. After 5 weeks a second surgery was required because of the destabilization of the intercondylar fracture. The osteosynthesis of the intercondylar fracture was carried out with 2 lag screws Ø 2.7 mm. The dog did not experience any complications associated with the second surgical procedure. The outcome was very good with insignificant lameness.
