  • Medycyna Weterynaryjna publishes reviews and original papers in the fields of veterinary medicine and applied biology.
  • Materials submitted for publication should meet the following criteria:
  • the manuscript should not exceed 10 pages, including references, tables and illustrations,
  • two copies of the paper, including the original and an electronic version, should be submitted to Medycyna Weterynaryjna (henceforth, the Editor),
  • each page should have a 4 cm margin, and there should be 30 lines per page without any differentiation in font, such as underlining or bold typeface (italics are acceptable for Latin terms only).
  • The following format should be followed in the manuscript:
  • the title of the study should be centered;
  • the names and surnames of the authors should be centered under the title;
  • in papers originating from scientific institutions, the names of the department, faculty and institution, as well as their exact address in-cluding the postal code, should be centered under the author’s name; in manuscripts not originating from specific institutions, the city/town and address should be centered under the author’s name; in the case of authors from different institutions, their respective places of employment should be marked with asterisks, e.g. Jane Doe*, *Institute of Veterinary Hygiene;
  • the text of the paper should begin directly under the information concerning the author’s affiliation;
  • conclusions at the end of original papers cannot be a mere repetition of the results of the research;
  • the academic or professional title, first name and surname of the main author, as well as his/her address, e-mail and fax/telephone number should be provided on a separate page.
  • All units of measurement should conform to the International System of Units (SI).
  • Tables (marked as such) should be kept to the absolute minimum, separated from the text and numbered with Arabic numerals. All tables should be drawn with single, continuous lines.
  • Illustrations (i.e. photographs and diagrams labeled as Figures) should be kept to the minimum and compliant with the following formal requirements:
  • the format should be no larger than A4 (29 x 21 cm);
  • sharply focused black and white or color photographs (on shiny paper or transparencies), as well as figures and graphs, should be sub-mitted both in printed and electronic versions;
  • all inscriptions, numerals and letters in illustrations should remain clearly legible after the width of the illustrations has been reduced to 90 mm;
  • illustrations should be numbered and inscribed with the author’s name on the reverse side; captions and explanatory comments should not be placed below them, but listed separately.
  • Bibliography, provided on separate pages, should include only works cited, which are to be listed in alphabetical order according to the surnames of the first authors. Each entry should include;
  • the ordinal number, the surnames and initials of all authors, the full title of the article in the original language, the bibliographic ab-breviation of the periodical’s name, the year of publication and the volume number (not in bold), as well as the numbers of the first and last page of the article, e.g. Kowalski J.: Wpływ pulmicortu na pracę płuc. Medycyna Wet. 1999, 51, 482-486
  • to maintain the alphabetical order of references, nobiliary particles used with the first author’s surname (e.g., van, von, der, de) should be placed at the end of his/her surname, e.g. Johannes van der Waals – Waals J. van der. This does not apply to the other authors, whose surnames should be left in the original order.
  • Polish bibliographic abbreviations should be used: t. (volume), nr (number), s. (page), w (in); in the body of the text a work cited should be referred to by its ordinal number in the list of references rather than by the authors’ names. Bibliographic abbreviations of the names of periodicals should be the same as those given on the cover of the periodicals in question. A transcription of the Cyrillic alphabet was published in Medycyna Weterynaryjna nr 9/1995. The relevant information is also available from the Editor. Books should be cited only in rare instances (well-known books are to be omitted), and the following order is to be followed: the authors’ surnames and initials, book title, publisher, place of publication, year, page number if necessary, e.g. Sembrat K.: Histologia porównawcza zwierząt. T. 1, PWN, Warszawa 1981, s. 245. In the case of conference materials, the bibliographic notation should be as follows: the authors’ surnames and initials, title of the paper, conference title, place, volume if necessary, year, page number. When a doctoral or post-doctoral dissertation is cited, the reference entry should have the following form: Kowalski J.: Changes in canine blood chemistry following vagotomy. Doctoral dissertation, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, University of Life Sciences, Lublin, 1993.
  • The following should be enclosed with the paper:
  • an introductory letter from the head of a department sponsoring the study (if sponsored);
  • the statement that the paper will not be published in another journal without the Editor’s consent;
  • For the sake of academic honesty, the paper should be accompanied by a written statement specifying the nature of each author’s con-tribution to the study, e.g. John Smith – concept and guidelines, James Brown and Mark Andrews – development of the experimental system, Paul Adams – choice of method, Chris White – discussion of the results and conclusions. This measure is meant to deter the practice of ghostwriting (in which an important contribution to the paper is made by a person who is not listed among the authors or whose role is not recognized in acknowledgements) and “guest authorship”(which consists in listing a person as an author or co-author of the paper even thought his or her contribution is negligible or non-existent).
  • an approval by an ethical committee if the study is based on experiments with animals.
  • Original studies and review articles should be accompanied by extended summaries in English and Polish. The authors’ surnames and initials should be listed at the top of the summary with the title below them. The summary should include the same elements as the paper: the aim of the study, materials, methods, main results and conclusions, but introduction data should be omitted. It should also include three or four keywords.
  • The Editor reserves the right to make any necessary changes concerning accuracy, style and abbreviations. All major changes will be consulted with the authors.
  • The Editor does not return manuscripts or make photocopies of published papers.
  • The potential contributors or their employers should subscribe to Medycyna Weterynaryjna. Publication of original research papers is subsidized by the authors or the institutions they represent (unless the papers have been commissioned by the Editor). In exceptional, fully justified cases the Editor can waive this charge.
