| Cesarean section in the cat: A survey of 126 cases. |
| The aim of this study was to analyze 126 cases of cesarean section in cats. Most of the investigated cats were of European breeds. The age of the females ranged from 8 months to 18 years. It is noteworthy that as many as 68 females (54 %) were 3 years old or younger. Only in 101 cases (80.2 %) the date of the first mating was known. The majority of the females (87 animals) had not delivered any kittens before being admitted to the clinic The most common reasons for surgical delivery (hysterotomy) were primary or secondary uterine inertia (51 cases) and single pregnancies (14 cases). In 12 cases, a radical cesarean section (gravid hysterectomy) was made – mostly at the owner’s request. In cases of conservative cesarean section (hysterotomy), a significant percentage (51.4 %) of dead kittens was noted – mainly due to late admission to the clinic. |
