Equine surgery: effectiveness of procedures, risk of complications and the importance of perioperative care
Equine veterinary surgery plays a pivotal role in the treatment of numerous conditions. The aim of this review was to analyze the current state of knowledge regarding selected surgical procedures, the risk of complications, and the importance of perioperative care. A wide range of techniques are currently available for an individualized approach to each case. Despite high survival rates, however, surgical procedures are still associated with a significant risk of complications. The use of general anesthesia, the course of the recovery phase, and the prevention of postoperative infections remain particularly challenging. Therefore, this field continues to pose a substantial clinical challenge, requiring further research and optimization of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
