Translational medicine - where to look for its origins
Knowledge of the human anatomy is a prerequisite for diagnosis and treatment. In ancient Middle Eastern cultures, the human body was taboo. Knowledge was gained from the dissection of sacrificial animals or from the observation of injured people. Mummification of both human and animal corpses did not contribute to the knowledge of anatomy.
